Forthcoming Events

21st June 2007 - Summer Solstice

Avebury. There will be extremely limited car park access to Avebury for this year's Solstice celebrations. We would strongly advise people not to try to visit both Stonehenge and Avebury, as the car parks at Avebury will be full and police will be towing away people parked on the verges.

This year, the National Trust has introduced changes to the car park operation in order to-comply with the Enforcement Notice issued by Kennet District Council.

Useful Information:

  • Camping will be permitted in the overflow section of the main car park on the nights of Wednesday 20th, Thursday 21st and Friday 22nd June.
  • Camping will be allowed in tents only. This is permitted under the current planning regulations and is agreed with emergency services and the local authorities.
  • During the Solstice period, the main car park will be staffed by the National Trust and security staff 24 hours a day.
  • The opening hours will be from 8.30 am until 6.30 pm as normal except
on the 20th when it will close when capacity is reached.
  • On the 21st and 22nd, vehicles will only be permitted to exit after 6.30 pm.
  • Additional parking will be available in the Manor Park for 50 vehicles (all under 2.1 metres in height) from approximately 8pm on the 20th June until 10am the following morning. (According to the NT the parking arrangements provide the same overall capacity as provided last year.)
  • The Police will be based in the Cricket Pavilion from 20th to 23rd June.
  • St John Ambulance will be operating a first aid post in Green Street from midday Wednesday 20th until 4 pm on Saturday 23rd June.
  • There will be temporary toilet blocks in the High Street (next to the existing toilets) and in the main car park.
  • Extra rubbish bins will be located in the High Street car park and Green Street, these will be emptied regularly.
  • Contact telephone Numbers: Police - 0845 408 7000 or 999 in an emergency. National Trust Estate Office - 01672 539250 (usually 24 hrs)

Stonehenge. Free and Open Access has been arranged in liaison with English Heritage and Wiltshire Constabulary for the 8th consecutive year.

Access to the stones will be from 8.30pm on Wednesday 20th June 2007, until 8am on Thursday 21st June 2007. The car park will open 7pm on the 20th, with last admission at 6am on the 21st. Disabled minibuses will run from the car park to the stones - all other access is an approximate 1 mile walk from the car park. Buses will run from both Salisbury and Amesbury on the night, returning the next morning.
